Hi all,
My series 2 is meant to be fully Clarendon grey, but I am contemplating a duo-tone paint job, or even tri-tone, just to be different, but I have to tread carefully with not only the Isis register as I wouldn't want to take it completely away from what it is, but also with it's former owners family still around.

But basically, what colours go well with Clarendon Grey?
Thanks in advance.

Duo-tone paint always looks nice and was a factory option.
Did your Isis come with the chrome flash along each side?

flash being the chrome strip that dips down? such as the Guzzler has?
I don't think so, I do have some pieces, but they are too damaged to use sadly, and no holes in my body work. My chrome is on top and side of the wing and door and that's it.

SIMONCARS has a couple of nice examples.

Or, how about this from CLASSIC CAR CATALOGUE?

Peter - if your car doesn't have the chrome (on brass) strip that goes around it's waist I think it might look a little odd if you finished in the 'factory' style. Perhaps it would be worth considering fitting those strips first, then the world is your oyster; if you recall the green/cream Series II I did in particular - that was monotone green when it left Cowley, but it had the benefit of the second set of strips.

Let me know if you want some as I think I have plenty of used ones!!

Cheers, Howard.

Hi all, thanks for that.

Howard - 1st happy birthday, sorry it's late. 2nd, I may well be interested once my Land Rover chassis is payed off. Would the chrome that I have, be specific to my model though? I guess to define the Auto from the Manual.

Thanks for that Peter (IMG:http://www.wolseleyforum.com/style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

The chrome strip that you have along the top of the front wing is specific to the monotone cars (but see the note below about duo tone cars), and in a similar vein it is used on the Series II Traveller (which of course are not duo tone). The side strips that you have already are common to all Isis variants, and strangely, the waistline strips that you DON'T have are not limited to duotone cars (IMG:http://www.wolseleyforum.com/style_emoticons/default/wacko.gif) as I've had them on both variants. I don't think the auto is equipped differently, but I think there may be some carry over between De-Luxe and Standard models. However, most people don't know what their own car was sold as in the first place - it's a bit of a minefield!

I think the DouTones look very sharp indeed. But you MUST fit the chrome strip, as Howard suggests, or it won't look right.

I have an Oxford Series IV advertising pamphlet that lists available duo-tones, which may well be similar for the Isis:

Black with Birch Grey
Turquoise with Birch Grey
Dark Green with Island Green
Sage Green with Twilight Grey
Birch Grey with Red
Clarendon Grey with Steel Blue

So the last one is the only one with your grey, and sounds like the description for the second of Penguin's examples above. My car is (I thought) Sage Green, but now I'm wondering if it is Island Green, as I've seen several pictures of cars with my lighter green and a darker green above, presumably Dark Green, as with this not-very-good scan I made of how I'd like to do mine: Attached File  duotone_series_iv.jpg ( 72.99K ) Number of downloads: 0

.... or should I say a darker green below, rather than above....
