I have owned this Clarendon Grey Series 1 for thirteen years, having imported it from New Zealand; back in 2004 I hade a little paintwork done to address some small areas but essentially it was very good having been sand blasted and painted (but not reassembled) some ten years earlier. It made it's last public appearance at the 2013 Goodwood Festival of Speed, following on from display at Cornbury Park at the Morris 100 year Anniversary celebrations and a fair bit of film work for the short lived medical series Breathless. At the end of all this the paint was looking very sad, and probably relates to poor preparation, but the roof resembled a dried up river bed and something needed to be done. At the same time as making this decision, I ran into a problem with an Isis engine I had rebuilt for a fellow club member and to make that job a little easier to manage, I ended up lending him the engine out of the Series 1 - as you do...

So earlier this year I finally got round to stripping the poor old thing to a shell and had it stripped and repainted properly - now I just need to find the time to put everything back where it belongs (IMG:style_emoticons/default/coffee.gif)

Enjoy!

And that's why I can't start on the van yet (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wacko.gif)

Looks like a nice job, Howard.
Are you painting the dashboard too?

What happened to the engine in the other Isis?
Jolly nice of you to lend him your engine (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Yes the dash was painted too - it wasn't bad but I wanted it to match!

The engine in the other Isis had a pin hole in the main oil gallery where it goes across between the cylinders and meets/crosses the rocker gear supply gallery - so we had oil in the water - it's quite common on the C series engine and of course can't be proven by hot pressure testing of the block cooling system (IMG:style_emoticons/default/angry.gif)

Fairly easy to repair, by drilling and reaming both galleries and fitting sleeves with Loctite - but frustrating nonetheless! It's all good now, and all important fluids stay where they are meant to within reason. Lending the engine was actually the least painful bit of the whole operation!
