I couldn't stop myself - I don't need any more projects, but I could almost justify a van that I could use at work...

Through the good offices of Richard Monk I was alerted to the existence of a Series III Van languishing in a lock up - where it had been for 30 years ish - so bearing in mind the rarity of these creatures I bought it unseen, and arranged for mate Steve and I to go and perform the extraction. All tyres flat, all brakes seized - you know the score - but with the help of the truck's winch it was persuaded to leave for the daylight. A quick bit of jacking (and yes, I know all about axle stands) and jiggery pokery saw the brakes de-adjusted and a set of slave wheels fitted, then it was on the truck and away to it's new home.

There will be more to follow, but as I am currently trying to find the time to reassemble one of the Isis fleet it will have to wait for a little while!

Steve attacks the o/s/f wheel.

Just what you needed Howard. Something to amuse you with over the winter. Get a few engines in the back of that!

It looks like you have scored well there Howard, on first look it appears to be quite complete, I am sure there are many folks who are quite envious of you, good luck with getting it back where it belongs

That was my justification - kind of! I don't need anything to do over the winter though...

It's far from perfect Paul, but it is reasonably complete and most importantly not full of filler and rubbish repairs - the white patch below the o/s headlamp is the only repair apart from a replacement sill on the n/s. The interior is a bit sad, and I'll bet the mechanics are well worn - however, apparently the van was used in a flooring business so it's had a reasonable life.

Howard.

That's great!
The windscreen is out - had someone started restoration and only got a tiny way in?
Looks very honest.
Does it have any unmitigated luxuries, like a passenger's seat? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

The vendor has been the registered keeper since 1970 but he couldn't recall why the windscreen was missing; there is no evidence of broken glass and the wiper arms/blades are in the back! That may remain as one of life's mysteries...

It has two seats, and my lack of knowledge prevents me from saying whether all vans/pick ups had seperate seats or a bench?

You must have an absolutely enormous workshop/barn/exhibition centre, Howard. It's going to be a mild winter so if you're short on space there's always the great outdoors!

Cheers!

Whilst I try not to, if I do have to I have some salopettes ( probably spelled wrong). That I picked up in a charity shop for a fiver. Marvellous! Reinforced knees too, idea for lounging around under cars.
