Having brushed up against the incredibly greasy filthy track- rod end joints etc while fitting Christine's engine, I decided to strip and clean them. The joints feel ok, smooth action with no detectable play, but the rubber boots were completely knackered. Before I start scouring the Internet, does anyone know where I can get new boots?

Ball joint and steering joint boots are now MoT-able. Pop down to your local factors with an old one and they will have a selection to choose from. Funny how that happened about a week after the UK legislation changed.

Thanks for that Chris. I'll go onto a couple of local factors websites and see if I have any joy.

Normally I would be screaming Morris Minor, But I don't think I need to. I think you will find that all the BMC steering racks are more or less the same and the only difference is the length of the track rods.

Rubber boots should fit whether they are for a Mini, Minor, Midget or whatever. Even Wolseley.

Just go for the cheapest.

MYKE.

Not talking steering racks Myke. Talking about track-rod end and drag-link joints. Rang Brakeline Factors and they do a universal pack of 20 for £18+vat. I'll pop in on Monday and buy a pack. Should keep all the fleet going for a few years.
I'm scraping and cleaning all the semi-solid gunge and greasy yuck off everything, ready for a nice paint job.
